Grades: 9-12 | 287 students
Asheville School has 21 interscholastic sports teams and the school's athletic facilities are considered among the best in the Southeast.
Smaller classes allow students to engage in respectful discussion and debate with their peers or one-on-one guidance with their teacher. The average class size is 13.
Asheville School classrooms are a warm and inviting place. While the substance of the curriculum is traditional, teachers use innovation to connect the subject matter to their students and keep it relevant.
Asheville School is unlike any school I have encountered.
It is located in a vibrant, lively city full of art, music and eclectic food, set among breathtaking Southern mountains and trout-filled rivers.
It encompasses 300 acres of hiking paths, horse trails, fields, woodlands and streams.
It enjoys the advantage of elegant Tudor-style buildings registered as historic landmarks, along with state-of-the-art technology and athletic facilities.
It is not, however, Asheville School's significant physical advantages that make this place special.
Asheville School is about people and relationships.
We believe that a good school is one in which every student is known and loved, and we can do that at Asheville School because we are purposefully small, and we are predominantly boarding.
In our intimate residential community, we eat meals family style, we come together daily as a full school in either chapel or convocation, and we rub elbows in dormitories and around campus.
Most prospective students have been high achievers in their previous schools, both in and out of the classroom.
But equally important to a student's demonstrated academic ability is the motivation to carry on Asheville School's high standards and tradition of excellence.
A student must be a good citizen and have the desire and drive to contribute to the success of the overall school community.

- Asheville School is one of the nation's leading boarding schools. What sets us apart?
- • Academics. Our challenging academic program-including 16 Advanced Placement (AP) courses-helps give our students a competitive edge. They learn to reason and communicate clearly. They attend top colleges. Most importantly, they go on to lives of leadership and service.
- • Size. We're small -- about 280 dynamic, talented students in grades 9-12. Students receive support from dedicated, inspiring faculty, most of whom live right on campus.
- • Values and Opportunities. From our student-run honor system to our unwritten code of respect, values matter here. And students have many opportunities for leadership and participation in competitive athletics, the arts, and outdoor adventure.
- • Campus. Our stunning 300-acre campus is in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains-on the outskirts of Asheville, NC, a city that mixes cosmopolitan style with southern culture. Our facilities combine gorgeous, historic buildings with 21st century technology.
