School Notes

  • Capitol Hill Day School is an independent, coeducational school for students in prekindergarten through eighth grade. Its mission is to engage a diverse community of students in connecting the classroom to the larger world, supporting each child in developing the confidence, compassion, and intellectual capacity to live a life of purpose and value. From its inception, the School has been committed to using the rich and varied resources of the greater Washington area. An extensive program of trips (over 300 per year) and guest speakers provide an experiential approach to learning and help students understand that learning is a process not limited to a classroom setting. Teachers work together to integrate the curriculum, relating themes and concepts between subjects.  Starting in prekindergarten, classes in art, music, foreign language (French or Spanish), PE, library, and technology (grade 3 and up) are incorporated weekly.    The school has a daily After School Program as well as a Summer Camp program.  Both of these auxiliary programs offer children a wide variety of enrichment classes including yoga, soccer, arts, tae-kwon-do, instrumental lessons, and more.
