School Notes:

  • Academic excellence characterizes La Lumiere’s entire curriculum and helps to prepare our students to attend some of the best colleges and universities in the country. La Lumiere’s curriculum consists of a wide range of dynamic core course and electives numbering well over a 100 distinct offerings. In addition, our academic program includes a collegiate writing program; Advanced Placement classes an award-winning arts program, and a nationally recognized Science Olympiad team.
  • La Lumiere’s robust curriculum is further enhanced by four distinct, mission driven Areas of Excellence; Global Studies, 21st  Century Science, Faith Studies and Entrepreneurial Studies.  Community service is an important component of a La Lumiere education. Students are encouraged to look beyond themselves and to develop a sense of civic responsibility by working with the elderly, small children, the homeless and other less fortunate members of society. As a requirement for graduation, students have the opportunity to participate in regional, national and international service learning trips.    La Lumiere students have access to a full array of co-curricular activities, including: fifteen varsity sports, fine arts, fitness and over twenty-five faculty sponsored clubs and activities. Offerings include: crew, football, tennis, golf, soccer, volleyball, baseball, softball, track and field, basketball, cross country, drama, yoga and dance.  In addition, La Lumiere students can also take advantage of  a number of academic co-curricular offerings, including our state and nationally recognized Academic Decathlon and Science Olympiad teams.
  • Lumiere graduates can be found at outstanding colleges and universities throughout the country, where they utilize the tools they gained through their La Lumiere experience to pursue both personal and professional success.  La Lumiere’s college counseling program, led by Dr. Pete Campbell, begins in the ninth grade and continues steadily through senior year. Dr. Campbell’s many years of college counseling experience and his use of cutting edge technology like the Naviance Family Connection program, helps both parents and students to thoughtfully explore a wide range of colleges and universities with the ultimate goal of discovering the right “fit” for every student.   The cornerstone of La Lumiere’s leadership program is the Prefect System. Each year, students apply for and are chosen to lead or contribute to the key areas that comprise the La Lumiere experience and impact the school’s community.  In addition, La Lumiere students are given the tools to hone their leadership skills through a unique curricular program that includes ethics classes, leadership seminars, public speaking projects, debate mechanics, and community outreach.
  • Founded on the educational principles of some the county’s oldest boarding schools and located on an historic country estate, La Lumiere is a school steeped in both history and its own unique tradition. For fifty years, students have chosen La Lumiere to become part of a school that promotes personal success while never losing sight of the importance of community. From Sixth Form Retreats, Parent Weekend Bonfires and the Taste of La Lumiere, to Senior Chapels, the La Lumiere Medal, and the Headmaster’s Cup; La Lumiere embraces and celebrates the traditions that connect generations of La Lumiere graduates.
