MJCDS has given my grandson a wonderful kindergarten and first-grade start at school. In the small school, students are grouped by where they are, not by "classes," and the teachers find lots of time to work with students individually. My grandson has learned to read and write, to do arithmetic with greater than 2-digit numbers, including borrowing. Plus there is integrated and creative social studies and science. This year started with a study of Russian culture and of the periodic table of the elements, and the students read the nutrition information on food packages understanding what the elements contribute! Finally, students learn to read and speak Hebrew--excellent introduction to language study. The school is integrated, racially and academically, and the students enjoy being friends with everyone. Thoughtful, creative teachers do more than teach; they guide students to enjoy each other and to love learning.
