I did an internship at MOS towards the end of my grad studies to discover what else is out there besides the traditional education system. At MOS, it is like learning at home with friends or siblings but students have the support of 50 years of experience. The students have individualized programs in which the teachers make sure to incorporate their various interests and needs in all areas (math including algebra and geometry, reading, writing, French, music, art, sciences, social studies, dance, and whatever else comes up!). The students are encouraged to share their opinions, feelings, and thoughts and they get to vote on the topics for each school year. It was incredible to see the development in the students` writing and the quality of their books and reports written with the one-on-one support of the teachers. I also got to observe how carefully the students worked on their chemistry experiments and the depth of their learning in chemistry. The learners chose to study astronomy next year (2021/2022)! I believe MOS provides a safe and supportive space for every student to discover and develop how learning works and what is out there to learn.

My daughter attended MOS some years ago for grades 6 - 8. MOS combines a small school environment with an expansive academic program second to none. It was an excellent experience; the "single school room" concept made it a rich inter-generational learning opportunity. Students were not "taught to the test" but rather lessons grew organically from individual students' interests, gifts and strengths. Yet all the traditional subjects were covered, along with extras like art, Spanish, and frequent enriching field trips. Students passed standardized tests without difficulty and went on to diverse area schools where many excelled. Some went on to college, others to successful entreprenurial careers. Most importantly, students' lively curiosity, creative spirits and enthusiasm for learning were never diminished or crushed. MOS is a fine choice if you want a rich individualized education for your students in a small setting with terrific teachers.

I find MOS to be exemplary in regards to student focused education. The one-on-one attention provides a focused and tailored approach geared for each students strengths and interests. The result is students advance at their own rate but are held to high standards. I endorse the student experience as being positive and innovative.

This is what I can post. Can you proof it first? ? Art is a core value at Metropolitan Open School, the students have regular classes with professional teaching artists in both dance and the visual arts.? The content of the art classes is organized to enhance the current curricula adding a quality art infused experience for the students. Annual programs feature student work by showcasing performance skills and foster personal positive experiences.
