Job Description: Middle School Chinese Teacher – Part-time 320 East Road Hampstead Academy, Hampstead, NH 03841 603-329-4406 www.hampsteadacademy.org Hampstead Academy is an independent school that serves bright and academically talented girls and boys from Preschool through Grade 8. Hampstead Academy is a learning community that strives to enable students to develop academic potential and individual talents in a caring atmosphere that cultivates creative thinking, upstanding character, service to others, and enthusiasm for learning. The faculty and student body share a passion for learning, a dedication to local and global community service, and a breadth of diverse talents. The school currently has an opening for a Chinese teacher. The position is a part-time, 10-month faculty position which reports to the Leadership Team. The ideal candidate will possess native or near native ability in Mandarin Chinese and English as well as a strong academic background in the Chinese language and culture. The candidate must be able to teach middle school students and should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. Major responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: • Teach Mandarin Chinese to students in Grades 6, 7 and 8 • Design, implement and document a dynamic and innovative program that offers “hands-on” and experiential learning opportunities • Support a program that meets the social, emotional, cognitive, physical and creative needs of individual students and the group, and follows Hampstead Academy curriculum guidelines • Provide a stimulating and developmentally appropriate educational environment in a way that is in accordance with the goals of Hampstead Academy • Identify and teach to individual learning styles • Develop an awareness and appreciation for the Hampstead Academy culture and the total program • Use personal interests and skills to support the overall Hampstead Academy program offerings • Assist with the integration of technology into curriculum plans by supporting and implementing the Hampstead Academy Technology Plan • Work closely with the Hampstead Academy faculty to integrate curriculum and programming Qualifications include: • Master’s in Chinese Education, or closely related field preferred, but not required • State of New Hampshire (or Massachusetts) Highly Qualified teaching certification desirable • Prior teaching experience at the Middle School level • Fluent in Chinese with knowledge of both English and Chinese grammar • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and stay organized • Experience with students having a variety of learning styles • Proven ability to explain Chinese grammar concepts and relate them to English grammar • Working knowledge of various Chinese cultures, historical facts, current events and geography of China. • Experience living in a Chinese-speaking environment • Willingness to collaborate with other middle school teachers Interested candidates should send a cover letter, current resume, copy of certifications and 3 references as a single Word file or PDF document via email to: Leadership.team@hampsteadacademy.org Attention: Lyn Kutzelman 603-329-4406 or mail to 320 East Road, Hampstead, NH 03841
