  • Faith Lutheran High School graduates first senior class
posted on June 1, 2012 at 12:00:00 am
PLANO, TEXAS - June 1, 2012 - High school graduation is a time of a lot of "firsts" and "lasts" for students as they prepare to exit the world of high school and enter the world of college and all of the independence and challenges that it brings. But for the three high school seniors at Plano's Faith Lutheran High School, they have the opportunity to experience a very special "first". Spencer Anthony of Murphy, Stephanie Swain of Richardson and Bethany Woelmer of Lucas make up the school's very first senior class, which will graduate in an evening ceremony at the school on Thursday, May 31. "Faith Lutheran High School is a special place. One of the main reasons is our students," said Faith Lutheran School Headmaster Timothy Merritt of Plano. "Our students are very hard workers. They do an average of four hours of homework a day. Despite this, they rarely complain, a fact which has been one of my biggest surprises and greatest delights. Not only do they not complain much, they are among the first to step forward when asked to help and to do it cheerfully. This is indeed a rare characteristic in youth today." Faith Lutheran High School is a small Christian college prep school located in Plano, Texas that currently has 18 students. It is in its fourth year of operation. The school has a rigorous program following a Classical Education model. Merritt added that all of Faith Lutheran High School's students are very bright academically. Their average test scores are in the top 15 percent nationally on the ITED, PSAT, SAT and ACT. Class valedictorian Bethany Woelmer will attend Concordia University in Mequon, Wisconsin, focusing her studies there on parish music and education. "Bethany is the hardest working, most self-disciplined student with whom I have had the pleasure to work with. She balances a work load that would break most people," said Merritt. Woelmer plays more than five musical instruments and also took calculus, psychology and geology at Collin College while completing here senior year studies at Faith Lutheran High School. She served as editor of the high school newspaper and first-ever high school yearbook. She is president of her 4-H group and very active in the youth group at Faith Lutheran Church. Stephanie ...
