A Mercer Island resident recently completed the New York City Marathon, held on Nov. 1. Patrick McCarthy, 44, ran the 26.2 miles in 4:20:26 to finish in 22,286th place. McCarthy averaged approximately 9:57 per mile during the annual event.

Jonah Kohen, of Mercer Island, was named a National Merit Scholar semifinalist in September. Kohen is currently a student at Northwest Yeshiva High School.
