A few days ago, the village of Morton and School District 709 were notified that they had been awarded a $250,000 Illinois Safe Routes to School grant, which was to pay for new sidewalks, curb renovations and road improvements in a section of town that contains Bethel Lutheran School, Blessed Sacrament School and Grundy Elementary School. It had the makings of a perfect sleepover. Fourteen girls. A pile of sleeping bags. A big-screen TV. And 500 boxes of Girl Scout cookies. But Girl Scout Troop 4190 had some work to do before the party started. They packaged and addressed the cookies to five military units serving in the Middle East and filled out customs forms for each of the packages.
