Notes for Prospective Students

Background
Mars Hill Academy is an independent, classical Christian K-12 school that has been serving families of southwestern Ohio since 1996.

The school is accredited by the Association of Classical and Christian Schools (www.accsedu.org), an accomplishment achieved by only 29 schools in the United States.
Located in Mason, Ohio, MHA serves some 337 students from six counties in southwestern Ohio - Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Hamilton, Montgomery, and Warren.

Diversity
MHA students are theologically, ethnically, and socio-economically diverse.
More than 75 churches (Protestant, Roman Catholic, and Greek Orthodox) are attended by MHA students.
Twenty-one percent of MHA students are non-Caucasian and the number is growing; major ethnic groups represented are Asian, African-American, Indian, and Hispanic.
While most MHA families fall above the 2013 Weighted Average Poverty Thresholds, there are less-privileged families at the school that approach these thresholds; about one of every ten students comes from a family with annual income of less than $40K.

Classical
MHA adopts the Classical educational method of the ancient Greeks and Romans.
Refined through the ages and reintroduced in the United States during the mid-twentieth century, this method leverages the natural learning abilities of children and consistently produces extraordinary students – students that possess a genuine love of learning, that think clearly, listen carefully, reason and write persuasively, and speak precisely.

Worldview
MHA promotes a distinctly Christian worldview.
Ideas and concepts are presented as part of a larger whole defined by Christian truth; students are led to evaluate all human knowledge and experience in light of the scriptures.
Graduates leave with a deep understanding of their world; the ability to discern truth, beauty, and goodness; and the ability to think, learn, and influence the world for the glory of God.

Independence
MHA is an independent school, meaning that it accepts no funding from local, state, or federal governments or religious denominations.
The school relies entirely on tuition revenue and private donations from generous school family and friends, charitable foundations, and business partners to cover operational costs (about $2.5 million for SY 2013-2014).
Independence permits MHA to provide a true classical Christian educational experience - pure in mission, vision, and result - free from outside oversight or control.

Results
Independence, classical methodology, and Christian worldview are intimately and intentionally woven throughout all that is done at MHA.
This integrated approach, unique among schools in greater Cincinnati, produces extraordinary results – students that are equipped to learn effectively and who love to learn, students of character, and students prepared to influence the world for the glory of God.

MHA students regularly score well above average on national standardized tests (Stanford, PSAT, SAT, and ACT) and routinely score high on National Latin, National Greek, and AP Exams.
Our 2013 graduates averaged an SAT Composite Score of 1330 (92ndpercentile) and an ACT Composite Score of 30 (95thpercentile).

On average 25% of all graduating MHA seniors are designated as National Merit Scholar Finalists or are commended students. Nearly all MHA students move on to college or university after graduation.
Recent graduates have chosen to study in the fields of Business, Community Development, Criminal Justice, Economics, Education, Engineering, Filmmaking, Journalism, Linguistics, Mathematics, Music, Nursing, and Theatre.
