Notes for Prospective Students

The Admissions Committee carefully evaluates each applicant on her individual strengths and talents. Admission to Hutchison is selective and based on previous school performance, teacher recommendations, results of an entrance test or evaluation, and an interview.

The School admits and promotes only those students who can and will excel in academic work, citizenship, and character while demonstrating self-control, maturity, and good habits. A girl accepted to Hutchison must be capable of successfully pursuing a college-preparatory program and must be willing to devote the necessary time to study. Hutchison accepts qualified female students with respect to the school's admissions policy.

Pre-Kindergarten, Junior Kindergarten, and Senior Kindergarten Applicants
  • Assessment: Contact the Admissions Office to arrange an appointment for the student's observation/evaluation time. This appointment will last approximately thirty to sixty minutes.
  • Teacher recommendations: Recommendations are required for girls already in a pre-school program.

First through Fourth Grade Applicants
  • Testing: Contact the Admissions Office to arrange an appointment for the student's testing. The length of testing will depend upon the grade level.
  • Teacher recommendations: Recommendations are required.
  • Transcripts: Complete transcripts including grades and achievement testing are required.
Fifth through Twelfth Grade Applicants
  • Testing: Hutchison, as a member of the Memphis ISEE Consortium of Independent Schools uses the Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE) as the primary testing instrument. The ISEE Consortium maintains a calendar of scheduled group testing. Contact the Admissions Office for further information or to arrange individual testing.
  • Teacher recommendations: Recommendations from a student's English teacher, math teacher, and school principal or counselor are required.
  • Transcripts: Complete transcripts including grades and achievement testing are required.
