Notes for Prospective Students

The need for a genuinely different, research-based, cutting edge secondary school model fit for the 21st century is critical.

  • The state of secondary education in the U.S.
is demonstrably poor and not improving.
  • Current education reform efforts (like those in past decades) do not contain the solution.
  • Huge disconnects exist between the persisting traditional secondary school model and the realities, challenges, and opportunities of today’s world.
  • Even the best public and private schools employ outdated, inefficient educational methods and are not designed to prepare today’s youth for success in tomorrow’s (21st century) world.
  • The future of our country depends on providing our children with a more relevant and effective secondary education.
  • School for Tomorrow (SFT) was founded in response to this critical need for change in secondary education. We are committed to serving as a model for others – grounded in research, committed to flexibility in instruction and the learning environment, and ultimately based on the inherent right of each student to learn in a way that best suits him or her.

Research and educational philosophy over the last half century informs our understanding of psychology, neural development, and the learning process itself.

Most schools continue to educate according to outdated models developed during the period of rapid industrialization in the 19th and 20th centuries.
On the other hand, we rely on the up-to-date research and best practices that have been verified and demonstrated to be successful.

At SFT everything we’re doing is derived from two basic questions:

    • What does a high school graduate need to know and be able to do to thrive in college, the workplace and life in the coming decades?
    • What are the most efficient and effective ways for students in general, and each student in particular, to master everything needed to thrive throughout their lives?
