Philosophy

E.A.

Young Academy is founded on the philosophy that gifted, talented and high ability scholars:

  • thrive in an educational setting with other advanced scholars where the curriculum is differentiated and allows for mindful, in-depth study
  • require thoughtful attention to their social/emotional development
  • do not benefit from a setting that fails to make demands on their abilities
  • require faculty who are uniquely trained to select and adapt the content of curriculum to the mental caliber of each scholar they teach

Instructional Theory

Scholar centric education starts with detailed, multi-dimensional information about where each child is on his/her learning journey.

Young matching curriculum with the learning styles, expression styles, interests, and abilities of scholars is central to creating life-long learners. 

At the start of the academic year, and at key points throughout it, E.A.

Young Academy scholars  take adaptive assessments, which provide a picture of each scholar's grade independent progress.

Instructional strategies are then adapted to each scholar’s specific learning needs.

Strategies for each scholar incorporate:

  • Personalized instruction
  • Linking test results to skills and concepts aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
  • Self-directed, project-based learning driven by constructivist pedagogy
  • Personalized Learning Plans (PLPs) for all scholars emphasizing student needs and interests
  • Technology-infused environment and incorporation of 21st Century Skills
  • Individual/group projects complemented by multiple teaching and learning approaches
  • Differentiated instruction
  • Authentic Assessment

Core Values

As the world becomes increasingly interconnected and competitive, we must maximize every opportunity to develop gifted learners and nurture their leadership.  At E.A.

Young Academy, teams, service and leadership groups are an additional means to build a strong character in scholars and in the whole community. 

Whether learning skills, competing in intramurals, supporting team members or competing interscholastically, E.A.

Young Academy scholars practice eight core values.  Multiple opportunities exist for multiple and varied interests.

Each month, the Academy will focuses on one of its eight core ethical values:

In addition to teaching about values, E.A.

Young Academy expects to see those values in action, in developmentally appropriate social behaviors.  In all situations, the Academy expects its scholars to reflect upon and take responsibility for their actions and choices.

Community Stewardship

Young Academy, collaborating with peers, sharing resources, and codifying know-how are typical facets of work activity.  E.A.
Young Academy believes that it must work collaboratively with fellow educators to identify opportunities for sharing, articulate values, and best practices, and assimilate knowledge as an everyday experience.
