We are still trying to organize a strong PTO here at Plaisance Elementary. We last met Oct. 26, but only a few parents were in attendance. Meetings are the second Monday of each month. Please join us. Together, we can make Plaisance Elementary a better school. Parental involvement is our major goal.

Opelousas native Marsha Guillory Bryant knew the road to her dreams would not be a smooth one, for she knew great things seldom come easily. But with determined parents and family members, she knew that all things are possible if there is the will to succeed.

About 700 Opelousas Catholic School students filled the pews and a couple of hundred visitors stood Friday morning at the back of St. Landry Catholic Church, with the overflow trailing out the door into the parking lot. They were waiting for a glimpse of the relic of St. Mary Magdalene.

Every holiday season, a life-sized Nativity graces the grounds of the St. Landry Parish Courthouse. A large blue curtain has provided the backdrop behind the figures of Mary, Joseph and the infant Jesus.

A purported relic of Saint Mary Magdalene is attracting crowds in Abbeville. This is the first time the two-thousand year old tibia, or shin bone, has been in the United States.
