Mater Dei is an elementary school for boys, grades 1 through 8, conducted by Catholic laymen. All students are required to attend religious classes. Classes are generally limited to twenty students. The curriculum is a reasonably fast-tracked one in which consistent effort and reading are emphasized; however character development is the school's top priority. Subjects in grades 1 through 4 are taught by women with the exception of physical education, which is conducted by male coaches from the upper school. Grades 5 through 8 are departmentalized with male specialists teaching most subjects.
