Focus Hope is a nationally recognized civil and human rights organization in Detroit, Michigan. Our mission is to use intelligent and practical action to fight racism, poverty and injustice. Our programs include a food program for eligible mothers, children and senior citizens; education and training in information technology, manufacturing and engineering; community arts programs; community and economic development initiatives, and children's day care, including a popular Summer Day Camp. Recognizing the dignity and beauty of every person, we pledge intelligent and practical action to overcome racism, poverty and injustice. And to build a metropolitan community where all people may live in freedom, harmony, trust and affection. Black and white, yellow, brown and red from Detroit and its suburbs of every economic status, national origin and religious persuasion we join in this covenant....

Robin Terry considers herself a pretty reserved person, but one of her boldest moves was her best. It was her 18th birthday and she and a girlfriend were sitting in the Eastern Michigan University cafeteria when her friend asked what she wanted for her birthday.
