    ESCANABA - An early outbreak of flu-like illness, which has caused several schools to cancel classes in the past few days, has hit Escanaba. Michele Burley, Escanaba School District superintendent, has canceled classes for students in the district today and Friday. Classes have also been cancelled at Holy Name and St. Francis de Sales schools the remainder of the week.

    ESCANABA - Classes for students at Holy Name School have been canceled today due to the number of students absent because of flu-like symptoms. Holy Name Principal Joseph Carlson made the decision to cancel classes after receiving a number of calls and e-mails from parents indicating their students are not well. Holy Name was also closed Tuesday.

    ESCANABA - A recent outbreak of influenza and other unrelated illnesses has forced the cancelation of classes for students in two local districts. Rapid River School Superintendent Terri Mileski canceled classes for today and Wednesday due to a high rate of absenteeism within the district. Holy Name School is closed toda.

    ESCANABA - Local Catholic students were able to attend a week-long Bible school held by Dominican sisters this week at Holy Name School in Escanaba. The mission was one of several across the country held by the Order of the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mothers of the Eucharist, from Ann Arbo.

    ESCANABA - Two teachers said their goodbyes to the students and staff at Holy Name School Thursday. Fourth-grade teacher Amy Carbonel and first grade teacher Linda Holmes are both retiring after many years of service to the school. Carbonel, 59, Escanaba, has taught at Holy Name for 40 years and Holmes, 62, Escanaba, for 25 year.
