- Started by Quakers and peace activists in 1988, Friends School of Minnesota has a student body of 159 and a faculty of 15. The school offers a solid academic program into which peaceful forms of conflict resolution are woven every day. In the tradition of the 80 Quaker Friends Schools across the United States, Friends School of Minnesota was founded to meet children's intellectual, emotional and spiritual needs in an environment that nurtures their social consciousness. In 1988, local Quakers and peace activists founded Friends School of Minnesota. In the tradition of the 80 Quaker Friends Schools across the United States, Friends School of Minnesota meets children's intellectual, emotional and spiritual needs in an environment that nurtures their social consciousness. Friends School of Minnesota currently has 159 students and 20 faculty. FSM offers a rich K-8 program in which in-depth academic studies are supported by peaceful forms of conflict resolution. We are a diverse community with students from a broad range of religious and non-religious backgrounds, including eight percent from Quaker families. We welcome ethnic and economic diversity; about 30 percent are children of color and about 30 percent of FSM families receive need-based financial aid, nearly twice the national average for independent schools.
