Absenteeism in the Melrose public and parochial schools is back to normal this week, with only a handful of children absent. The H1N1 Flu outbreak in Minnesota continues, with the MN Department of Health reporting 215 schools with flu outbreaks as of Oct. 10. On that date the numbers included 11 schools in Stearns; 12 schools in Wright, 6 in Olmstead counties; 27 in Hennepin; 11 in Ramsey; and 27 in Dakota counties. - Freeport Council terminates sheriff's contract (Melrose Beacon)

The Freeport City Council voted to terminate its eight hours per month contract with the Stearns County Sheriff's Department effective immediately.
