I'll be honest with you. Before 2016 I had barely heard of Holy Spirit Catholic School. Moreover, I had hoped to invest in my children's college fund rather than spend it on a K-8 private school. What motivated me to begin my search, however, was that we lived in an area in St. Louis County least known for its public schools. I was also horrified to witness a 5-year-old in one of our local preschools assemble mini toy blocks into the shape of a handgun... and set the barrel against his little friend's head, "Bang!" he said with glee. The factors that came into play in my search were: tuition fee rate, teacher-student ratio, tuition assistance/scholarship, quality of education, school driving distance in relation to home and office, safety policy, and my general first impression of the students, teachers, and staff after my tour of the school. I also had to trust my instincts. There's a saying that goes, "the proof is in the pudding". What ultimately convinced me to choose Holy Spirit were the students themselves. The kindergarten students I saw in class were engaged in the lesson and having genuine fun. The 6th graders who walked down the hallway were well-behaved. The principal Mrs. Gould, and two teachers, even allowed my children to spend half a day in their classrooms to interact with potential classmates. My children loved the experience! Now, nearly six months after enrolling my children there, I'm still impressed by its students. They're smart, well-spoken, well-mannered, and instinctively caring... while still being goofy, energetic, normal kids. This simply shows that Fr. Bob, Mrs. Gould, and the entire staff of Holy Spirit share my values, expectations, and socio-academic goals for my children. Equally deserving attention are the parents of these students who are highly involved in every aspect of their children's development. I like being part of a group of parents and school staff well aware of our privilege and responsibility of guiding youngsters in making their mark in the world-- a big, beautiful, positive impact-- as early as NOW.
