Environmental Montessori School

40 Saint Josephs Drive, Stirling, NJ, 07980-0792
Environmental Montessori School curriculum is based upon the Montessori Philosophy. Dr. Montessori’s aim as an educator was to develop the whole personality of the child through motor, sensory and intellectual activity. The Montessori classroom is a miniature community, where each child, working at his own level, may acquire self-reliance and self discipline. The joint activities of the children foster courtesy, consideration of others, neatness, order and discipline. These activities encourage the acquisition of values from within the child rather than only from without. Actual handling of the Montessori teaching materials in the prepared environment of the nursery school stimulates the child’s learning in Practical Life, Language Arts, Sensorial, Nature and Environment, Movement, Music, Arts and Crafts. The EMS Pre-School program teaches children the basic pre- school skills while stimulating their curiosity about nature, math, science and social studies. Some of the concepts the teachers review are color, shapes, counting, number recognition, matching, alphabet, letter sound relationship, calendar, opposites, seasons, the 5 senses and progress onto spatial relationships, sequencing, visual discrimination, putting sounds together to makes words, simple addition and subtraction, money, time and reading. Children are assigned to groups based on their age, ability and other factors.
