Area students receive Civic Chorus awards (Independent)

The Monmouth Civic Chorus, Red Bank, has announced the winners of its annual vocal scholarships for New Jersey high school seniors. Edward Donovan, Lincroft section of Middletown, received a $300 second-place award. A baritone, he is a senior at Mater Dei High School, New Monmouth section of Middletown.

St. John's United Methodist Church, 2000 Florence Ave., Hazlet, will hold a clothing drive 4-7 p.m. May 29, and 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. May 30. Needed are gently used, clean clothing; shoes, handbags, belts, ties, hats, bedding, curtains, towels, stuffed animals and other items. Items must be in garbage bags, and may be dropped at the back of the church.
'09 Basie Awards bring out best of high school shows (Asbury Park Press)

The big winners drew from the past (revivals of classic Shakespeare and Moliere plays, nostalgic musicals set in the 1920s and 1940s), but the focus was on the star performers of the future at the Basie Awards in Red Bank on Wednesday night.

Billy Devaney has been the Rams' general manager for only four months and already the city of St. Louis has made him the guest of honor at a parade. Well, not the kind of parade that comes with confetti and a Lombardi Trophy. Not yet, anyway.
