Sacred Heart School, founded and sponsored by Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish of Rockaway, New Jersey is a part of the Paterson Diocese School System and a Middle States accredited Elementary School. Its purpose is to provide quality education by gifted and certified teachers where Catholic doctrine is taught and where Christian community is fostered. We provide an extraordinary education in a dynamic learning environment that is engaging, encouraging and collaborative. Serving students from Early Childhood through Grade 8, we create confident achievers well prepared for continued growth in the classroom and beyond. Our mission is to provide academic excellence, sound instruction by gifted and certified teachers, and a choice of activities which permits your children to explore their talents and interests. Sacred Heart School provides dedicated, qualified and credentialed teachers, a broad curriculum built on a foundation of basic skills, a wide selection of “extras” from the arts and athletics to technology and science with individual attention to each of our children. Last year was a busy time for a number of institutions in our neighborhood that observed their centennial. This newspaper was one. Recently, we heard from reader and Ridgewood resident Peggy O'Kane regarding a school that will mark such a milestone this year.

Sacred Heart School in Rockaway has won awards for its literature appreciation program, which includes a biography book report component that has students dressing up as the people they study and addressing their classes in character. • Christopher Dittrick, a fourth-year student at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., was named to the dean's list for the first semester of the 2008-2009 academic year. He is the son of Dennis and Kathleen Dittrick of Whippany. He has a double majors in history and chemistry.
