Midwood Catholic Academy
School Notes Overview:
Midwood Academy is one of three new regional schools that were organized in September 2005. Midwood Catholic Academy has 227 students from 175 families. Our faculty consists of ten full time teachers from grades N to Eight. Midwood Catholic Academy students receive a well-rounded education with the curriculum including classes in art, music, band, foreign language, physical education and computer science. In addition, students also receive Title I services and have access to a full time guidance counselor. Our students are provided with breakfast and lunch funded by the New York City Department of Education. Midwood Catholic Academy also has a rich extra curricular activity program with an after school five days per week. A group of our intermediate level students are the first members of our Aquinas Club. We are currently under going the process of Middle States Accreditation and will have a visit in April 2009. The three local parishes involved with Midwood Catholic Academy are St. Brendan’s, St. Thomas Aquinas, and Our Lady Help of Christians. St. Brendan’s elementary school opened in 1913 and closed in June 1992. St. Thomas Aquinas elementary school opened in 1924 and closed in June 2005; and Our Lady Help of Christians elementary school opened in 1938 and closed in June 2005. Midwod Catholic Academy was created as a result of the closings of St. Thomas Aquinas and Our Lady Help of Christians elementary schools....
