School Notes Overview:

St. James School celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2004. The late New York Governor, Alfred E. Smith, attended St. James and received his only formal education at our school. St. James has always been a crossroads for multiple communities, and the School reflects the diversity of New York City. Our students are enriched by the wealth of backgrounds of their classmates. Today, the school serves Pre-K through eighth grade students who live in the surrounding Chinatown neighborhood, as well as students of parents who work in the City Hall area, at Verizon, One Police Plaza, and numerous Federal and state buildings and courthouses. About half of our students commute from outside the Lower East Side, mostly from Brooklyn. As a small Catholic school with 1 class per grade, St. James feels like a close-knit family. At St. James, we believe that each student has the potential to achieve and succeed.
