The Town School
School Notes Overview:
Since 1913, Town has been committed to an educational philosophy that balances high academic expectations with nurturing support. We know that children learn best in a school where everything – from the teaching to the educational programs to the way the classroom spaces are designed – is geared to giving children what they need when they need it. The Town School is committed to elementary coeducation, cultivating the joy of learning in a rigorous and nurturing environment. The program balances the traditional and innovative, providing each child the opportunity to develop intellectual curiosity, attain academic excellence and grow in self-reliance. The faculty and parents share a commitment to recognizing and developing each child's uniqueness, moral responsibility and social awareness. The Town School is a coeducational, nursery through eighth grade school. Town sets high academic and ethical standards; at the same time, we cultivate a love of learning, believing that the process of learning is as important as the result. By providing a nurturing and supportive environment, we encourage children to take risks and discover their individual gifts. In this unique setting, children exercise responsibility and assume leadership roles. We teach children to think creatively, read critically and reason logically. We stress the value of both individual learning and collaboration involving other students, teachers and parents. The broad academic program, which integrates the arts and physical education, is designed to enable all students to experience success, increase self-confidence and develop individuality....
