The 2009 Episcopal Day School Candlelight Tour of Homes will be held Sunday, Dec. 6, from 1 to 6 p.m. The annual event features five homes from the Southern Pines and Pinehurst area decorated for the holidays. Local musicians, singers and chefs will showcase their talents at several of the residences. This event serves as a major fundraiser for Episcopal Day School.
'Pep Talk': Obama Tells Kids to Take Responsibility (The Southern Pines Pilot)

Despite outcries from some critics, President Obama delivered a live address to school children Tuesday, telling them to work hard, stay in school and take responsibility for their education. The president's speech, intended to be a sort of "pep talk" to kick off the new school year, was broadcast online through the White House's Web site and on C-SPAN. It aired at noon.
