HELEN OUTLAND NEWPORT — Highway 70 reopened around 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon after a morning crash involving a vehicle carrying medical-use liquid oxygen caused fire crews to be concerned about the potential of explosion.

Fire crews spray water as a preventive measure to keep pavement cool after a truck, seen in the foreground, and a van, in the background, collided Thursday morning on Highway 70 west of Newport. The van was carrying liquid oxygen for home health use and overturned, with the product leaking.
