    Saks, with the very talented Cara Law pitching, came up on top to win the 2009 Calhoun County softball championship. Jacksonville and Jacksonville Christian Academy started out the tournament and the eighth seeded JCA team came from behind to beat No. 9 seed Jacksonville, 5-4.

    ATTALLA - The Etowah Blue Devils upset Class 5A, No. 4 Southside 7-3 Thursday in high school baseball action. The loss snaps Southside’s 17-game winning streak. Stephen Woodall earned the complete-game win, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out nine. He also scored two runs after reaching on a walk and an error.
