The Marion Christian Academy Knights basketball team opened up its season by winning the Tuscaloosa Tip Off Tournament in Alabama last week.

The Marion Christian Academy Lady Knights captured their second consecutive Blue Ridge Christian Conference volleyball championship, and followed it up by winning the conference tournament as well.

McDowell's gain in writing scores bucks the declining national average, although, at 493 points (down from 494 in 2008 and 2007) the national average is still well above McDowell. The picture is grimmer, however, in math and critical reading.

The end of the school year saw the departure of Marion Christian Academy Administrator Lincoln Walters. He left Marion to become associate head coach of the basketball program at Montreat College. The administrator's position at MCA has been filled by Bob Garner.
