School Notes Overview: |
On behalf of the faculty, we would like to welcome you to Horizon Christian School. We are looking forward to assisting you in fulfilling your educational goals. Horizon has a history of effectively helping students develop their academic, social, and extracurricular skills through a challenging academic program. In addition, our teachers endeavor to develop more mature believers in Jesus Christ who will positively impact their community.
We expect you to meet the goals which are set, to carry on the tradition, and to help make this school a better place to learn and grow. You can benefit from everything Horizon has to offer by being actively involved in your classes and the programs offered.
Horizon is a place for you to grow in your faith and maturity. I speak for the staff, when I tell you that we hope you are challenged academically, socially, and spiritually. If you encounter difficulties, seek out any of the staff and we will do our best to help you. We welcome the opportunity to help you as you proceed through your school career.
Sincerely,
Christopher Herring

- Horizon Christian School is approved through SEVIS to generate the necessary documents for the accepted international student candidate to obtain his or her F-1 visa. Horizon is a small private interdenominational school that is regionally accredited through the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools (NAAS), and we offer college preparatory classes for our high students.
You can see more information about our school and programs, including pictures of our new campus on our web site at www.horizonchristianschool.org Please note the tuition and fees for international students, including the host family room & board fees.
We hope you will carefully consider Horizon Christian School as an option for your high school education and life experience. Our school is located in Hood River, in the middle of Oregon’s beautiful Columbia River Gorge. Horizon is just minutes away from Mt. Hood where opportunities for skiing, river rafting, mountain climbing, and hiking abound. Oregon’s largest city, Portland, is one hour away and the Pacific Ocean coast is a 2-hour drive.
Horizon school families are pleased with the challenges of our academic program in a setting where students are encouraged to become powerful and successful learners. Horizon graduates are routinely accepted at both public and private colleges around the Northwestern United States and throughout the United States. Horizon students at all grade levels are prepared for the next step in their lives.
We have loving and nurturing teachers who provide a sound academic education from a Biblically-based world view. We have small classes where students receive much individual teacher time and attention, in a sound educational and encouraging environment. Students make significant academic progress while cultivating great personal friendships at Horizon Christian School, and international students will enjoy the positive atmosphere and attitudes of our students and teachers alike.
Horizon Christian School does not currently offer ESL classes for international students. Accepted international students must have a certain level of English proficiency in order to be accepted – see the web site for further information. We believe immersion into U.S. culture through our classes and home stay program is important for language acquisition and understanding.
International students at Horizon are placed with qualified host families who can provide additional support and care during the inter-cultural journey at Horizon Christian School. All international students are expected to carry a full course load and perform at the comparable grade level of an American student fulfilling all academic requirements.
If you decide to pursue your education at Horizon Christian School, you may download an International Student Application from our web site. Once we receive all requested information, we will schedule an interview (most likely by phone); and, upon successful completion of the admissions interview, issue the required SEVIS form I-20.
The Horizon Christian School web site will give you a profile of our school, as well as other interesting information. We welcome your questions, and encourage you to continue looking into Horizon Christian School. You may contact me, Christopher Herring, the Horizon School Administrator and Director of the Horizon International Student Program by phone at (541) 387-3200 or by email at admin@horizonchristianschool.org I look forward to working with you and your family.
