MAHANOY CITY — About a year after the consolidation of seven Roman Catholic churches into one parish, the Catholic faithful in the borough have received news that Academy of the Blessed Virgin Mary school will not open for the 2009-10 school year.

Gordon: The Lutheran Church Men of Christ’s United Lutheran Church will hold a spaghetti dinner from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the church, 437 Airport Road. Dinner will include spaghetti, meatballs, tossed salad, bread and butter, dessert and beverage. The cost is $8 for adults and $3 for children 6 to 12. There is no cost for children under 6. Tickets will be available at the door.
