School Notes Overview:

The Shawnee Academy was established as a psychiatric residential treatment facility and private academic school for children and adolescents with special needs. We offer a structured therapeutic environment that encourages cooperation, individual responsibility and promotes successful experiences as a foundation for building self-confidence and motivating personal growth. The mission of the Shawnee Academy is to give hope, guidance and healing in partnership with families and children in need. The Shawnee Academy recognizes and respects the differing cultural beliefs, values, attitudes and expectations of the families and children we serve. We actively partner with the family and child to assess strengths along with needs and build a plan for achievable goals and positive outcomes. The Shawnee Academy is committed to providing quality treatment that is holistic, individually tailored, culturally sensitive, and community based. We strive to embrace difference, collaborate with significant individuals involved in the life of the child, and encourage creativity, independence, and achievement. We emphasize interpersonal communication, based on a recognition that future success in school, the family, career and the community is based on the child's ability to form positive working relationships with people. Our goal is to provide a safe, secure and predictable environment where children and adolescents can learn and grow to maximize their individual potential. We believe that all children, given the right environment, have "inner gifts" which can be nurtured and developed. We start where the child is socially and emotionally and adjust the program to meet the individual needs, focusing on strengths. In this nurturing environment, our caring educators and their students explore abilities and options so that the students can make choices about the future and find the right path to follow to success....
