Annunciation Orthodox School ("AOS") began in 1970 as a ministry of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral.  Over the years it has grown from one early childhood class to a school averaging 670 students. AOS is a co-educational, family-oriented school. The school begins with our Delphi Class (age three years) and ends with eighth grade. The AOS curriculum is stimulating, innovative, student-centered and based on the principles of motivation, hard work, and creativity within a nurturing Christian environment. With its close proximity to the museum and performing arts districts, medical center, major universities, libraries, downtown, and zoo, the acquisition of knowledge occurs outside, as well as inside, the classroom. Regardless of the learning activity, the highly qualified faculty is dedicated to challenging the minds of the students and inspiring creative thought. Nationally normed standardized test scores range from the 80s to the 90s, on average, validating the school's academic program and teaching methods. Through this foundation, AOS lays the ground work for high school and beyond. These attributes make AOS a leading independent school in the city of Houston. School Address3600 Yoakum BoulevardHouston, Texas 77006Phone713.470.5600Fax713.470.5605School CommunityAnnunciation Orthodox School is situated near Houston's Museum District, Medical Center, University of St. Thomas, Rice University, the Houston Zoo, and Downtown.School Code447522Founded1970Age groups servedDelphi (3 years of age) through Eighth GradeEnrollmentTotal: 694 studentsReligious BackgroundsEastern OrthodoxCatholicProtestantJewishHinduMuslimOthersStudent/Teacher RatioEarly Childhood: 16 students to 2 teachersKindergarten:     20 students to 2 teachersGrades 1-4:       20 students to 1 teacherGrades 5-8:       18 students to 1 teacherAccreditationIndependent Schools Association of the SouthwestMembershipNational Association of Independent SchoolsHouston Area Association of Independent SchoolsHouston Association for the Education of the Young Child
