School Notes Overview:

The Christian School Society was organized in 1969 by a group of parents who were convinced of the need for Christian education in the Champlain Valley. In 1974, the Champlain Valley Christian School (CVCS) became a reality. The school opened with grades 1-6 in a rented building in Ferrisburgh. Each student enrolled at CVCS will be introduced to great works of literature, works replete with finely-crafted sentences, rich plots, and well-developed characters. Sometimes such works will be written by Christian authors; sometimes they will not. To teach Christian books that are lacking in substance and literary quality just for the sake of teaching “Christian books” does our students a disservice. When literature written by secular authors is studied, students will be taught to read carefully and critically with an understanding of the Christian worldview and with the ability to identify opposing worldviews of the authors they encounter. Simultaneously, while under the nurturing guidance of CVCS staff, students will learn how to appreciate the fine craftsmanship of secular authors while not embracing their mindset. ...
