The Thaddeus Stevens School, serving students in grades one through eight, is a community of diverse learners and teachers dedicated to academic excellence, joy in learning, responsible citizenship, and personal growth. Named after Thaddeus Stevens, the congressman who was the primary author of the Fourteenth Amendment; his legacy of commitment to equality and democratic principles serves as a model for the entire school community. The school joined the First Amendment Schools network in 2005 to reinforce its mission to educate students for responsible participatory democracy.
