Obama will talk to students at 11 a.m. Central time Tuesday, when many across the country head back to school after summer vacation. Locally, Elgin School District U46, St. Charles School District 303 and Central Community Unit School District 301 in Burlington started class Aug. 26. Carpentersville-based Community Unit School District 300 began last Monday.

Voters apparently checked their wallets before they marked their ballots Tuesday. Only one Fox Valley referendum that asked for financial contributions passed.

Referendums on the April 7 election ballot will ask Fox Valley residents to approve construction of new fire and police stations, purchase new firetrucks and books for libraries, upgrade school buildings and pay more for repairing their roads.
