School Reviews

Our daughter started at Chesterbrook Elementary in the fall of 2013. We couldn''t be happier. The teachers are top notch and very caring. They focus on our child''s positive attributes and encourage her to shine. She loves all her classes and teachers. At her previous school her favorite subject was recess :) but here she enjoys everything and she looks forward to going to school every day. It is wonderful that this school has the ability to personalize learning for each individual child. At her last school some teachers were very negative...she won''t sit still, she won''t focus, she needs to pay attention (duh, she has ADHD) and expected her to fall in line with a rigid set of behavioral expectations. They seemed more concerned with her behaving a certain way than whether or not she was producing the work expected. Academically she was (and continues to be ) an A student despite the issues from her ADHD. It was like the previous school was grooming a set of automatons instead of individuals. At Chesterbrook they are aware of her particular set of needs and are very compassionate with their responses. They also know that it is unrealistic to expect an 8 year old to act like a 16 year old and they''re behavioral expectations of the kids are age appropriate yet firm. The academics are advanced and they do wonderful individual and group projects thanks to the fantastic STEM program. Music (a 30 minute weekly private/semi-private lesson in the instrument of your choice is included if you want it!), Spanish, Art, Health, PE and Technology round out the curriculum and there are wonderful after school clubs too including one of my favorites PowerSpeak where the kids can choose to learn another foreign language or even Latin which is the basis of many languages! They also offer an onsite prepared hot lunch every day with vegetarian options which is fantastic if you are like me and don''t want to fuss with preparing lunchboxes every morning. We drive 30 minutes (on a no snow day) to get to school so the less I have to do before we get out the door the better! We plan for her to remain at this school through 8th grade. Some people have a problem with the small class sizes (really? that is so ridiculous; that''s one of the big pluses of, and reasons for attending, a private school) but this allows our child to get a lot of one on one attention which is far better than being in a class of 30 and just another number. I recommend anyone with kids in K through 8th grade, who want their child to have these many benefits, to visit this school and see for themselves.
