School Notes:
- We have small classes with individualized assessment and teaching modules, allowing every child to develop confidence and a love of learning.
- We teach what kids are excited about: the natural world that surrounds them (we have rabbits, chickens, a garden and a big field to play in,plus we hike weekly in the Open Spaces and Mountain Spaces all year long.)
- We have a strong academic program that is mainly integrated around the study of the natural world(science, history, math, reading, writing), but also has regular reading and math classes, plus creative writing. We have specialists in Art, Theater, Music, P.E. Dance/Yoga/Movement and Spanish.
- We believe that at the core of education is developing self knowledge for all learning to be of real value. We balance the inner life with the outer life. To do this we spend daily time on contemplative practices such as sitting, quiet time, time in nature, journaling, and yoga. Our vision lies in educating children to deeply connect to themselves, humanity and the planet.
- We create the foundation for life long health: plenty of time outside to play and be physical, (kids learn better if they have time to be active, as well as have hands on learning) weekly hikes, winter ski program, rock climbing and camping trips; homemade organic lunches; teaching kids to cook as well as all about how their bodies work so they can make healthy choices for themselves.
- We see service at the heart of living life fully, and so have service projects for the whole school both locally and globally that are hands on and connected directly to kids.
- We give kids support and guidance to pursue personal interests.
- We have built a solid community of families and teachers. Parents contribute to the classrooms and participate in monthly Parent Forums.
- We take the time to give children the tools for being excellent communicators and able to navigate and learn from friendships, or any relationships.
