School Notes:

Tinicum Art and Science (TAS) is a uniquely dynamic and innovative high school focusing on the individual needs of our students and encouraging mindfulness practices in everyday life. Our program broadens a student's self-awareness, compassion, and sense of community. Our faculty works as a team and regards education as an opportunity to develop and strengthen both the emotional and intellectual well being of our students.

The academic program at TAS focuses on experience, inquiry, and strong collaboration between teacher and student. Classes are small and engaging. Our goal is to teach students to define good questions, research and analyze, and present their thinking in coherent and compelling ways. TAS is a non-licensed, private, religious (Buddhist) school. Our curriculum meets Pennsylvania state standards. We graduate young adults of conscience, character, and compassion. Most of our students pursue post-secondary education from a variety of colleges and universities.

Our school day begins with meditation first thing each morning. The practice of daily meditation in a calm and safe environment supports students in developing self-awareness and focused behavior. Mindfulness is paying attention to the here and now with kindness and curiosity. Students begin to see themselves as vital members of a community and as individuals capable of conducting their own lives.
