Center Academy

2804 St. Johns Bluff Road S Ste 103, Jacksonville, FL, 32246
Center Academy provides a small, safe, accredited college prep environment for students who have fallen behind or who want to get ahead. Based in Florida, Center Academy started the first school for dyslexia in the United Kingdom. Center Academy is family-operated since 1968. It was founded by Dr. Mack Hicks, neuro-psychologist and chairman of the board of directors. More than a dozen directors, teachers, and staff have worked as members of the Center Academy "family" for at least 10 years. Center Academy private schools do not give the FCAT. Because education is much broader than a single measure, we do not "teach to the test". Nevertheless, our nationally-normed assessments consistently demonstrate that, on the whole, Center Academy students make learning gains greater than they had in their prior schooling.

School Reviews:

  • Recommended February 21,2013 - This is the first time our daughter has been happy in school. The staff and administration at Center Academy are always accommodating and they really care about the students. Our daughter has grown in self confidence, and had academic and social success.*-Posted by Parent *
  • Recommended February 19,2013 - I am very impressed with Center Academy. Our son transferred in this year from another local private school where he didn''t do well, due to various reasons. So far he and the school have exceeded our expectations. The settings are smaller, they don''t move from class to class and are attuned to special needs children. To-date our son is working above the normal course load and is carrying about a 3.6 GPA to our amazement. What a wonderful and successful transition. He is actually happy to go to school for once and is slowly making new friends which has also been one of his challenges. We look forward to his increased progress and affiliation with this school. Thanks Center Academy!*-Posted by Parent *
  • Recommended February 17,2013 - Center is an excellent school for kids needing a smaller, quiet controlled environment. All the staff, teachers and Principal are very responsive to parents and teachers. My daughter''s teacher is very attuned to my child''s needs. My child is very happy at this school. We have attended for three years now. I would highly recommend Center for kids with milder forms of ASD, LD and ADHD. Unfortunately, facilities and resources for music, art and sports are limited to none. But academics are very good and each child is on an individualized plan. They offer a kinder, gentler environment for students needing more attention and TLC than the most schools can offer.*-Posted by Parent *
  • Recommended February 17,2013 - My son has attended Center Academy for four months and I have seem many positive changes in his attitude, academics and his self esteem. I am very happy with the quality of the academic programs and small class size. He has made many new friends and enjoys the monthly field trips. The teachers, staff and director are top notch so friendly and helpful. I have already recommended Center Academy to many people I know.*-Posted by Parent *
