Old Mission Montessori School promotes the appreciation for human differences and helps children become effective decision makers. OCEANSIDE ---- The Mission San Luis Rey Parish honored its patron saint, Francis of Assisi, with an animal blessing and fair Saturday, the 800th anniversary since St. Francis established a new order of friars minor in 1209.

Elks Lodge Fun Fest An annual fundraiser features music performances, magic, pony rides and games. All-you-can-eat pasta is served from 4:30 to 8 p.m. July 11, barbecue from 1 to 5 p.m. July 12 at Encinitas Elks Lodge, 1393 Windsor Road, Cardiff. Free admission. (760) 753-2243.

Open house to be held ESCONDIDO ---- Escondido Charter High School will hold an open house July 24 for its new career technical education program called The Academy of Applied Technologies.
