School Notes:
- 9 classrooms with 9 children, a certified special education teacher and an Adaptive Behavioral Specialist (ABS)
- Every child enters through our intake department where they receive a complete psychosocial assessment by a Master's level trained clinician. The clinician works with the parent and the child to develop an Individualized Service Plan (ISP) that is reviewed every 90 days. The ISP identifies the behavioral and academic goals for the child. All staff involved with the child use this plan as the blueprint of treatment and educational success. This process keeps the focus on changing behaviors to increase academic success.
- The children enrolled have failed in multiple community academic settings and function one to four years below expected grade level. The goal is to stabilize behaviors and teach skills needed to be successful in their community academic setting. Our classrooms have a maximum of nine students in order to allow individualized academic instruction and small group discussions to teach and practice appropriate classroom behaviors.
- The child spends their morning receiving academic instruction in the small classroom setting. The second half of the day is a combination of group therapy blended with academic components. The students focus on issues such as anger management, peer interaction, self esteem, and other specialized treatment issues (trauma, grief/loss, domestic violence, family issues). Parents are expected to meet a minimum of two times per month for family therapy.
- Once the child has made significant progress, the treatment team is able to determine readiness for placement in a community school setting. The program runs year round to give the students the consistency and structure needed for their behavioral health and academic issues. Psychiatric staff is available to the program for consultation, assessments, family therapy and medication management.
