Lutherbrook Academy is a new therapeutic day school located on the grounds of Lutherbrook Child and Adolescent Center in Addison, Ill. A therapeutic day school is a school designed to give individualized, integrated academic and clinical programs for children with severe disabilities. Lutherbrook Academy is designed to serve children kindergarten through high school who have severe learning disabilities, behavior disorders, social/emotional disabilities and high functioning mentally impaired children. The Academy's curriculum meets the national standards for grades K-12 with a strong performance-based component. The curriculum accommodates high functioning, grade level, low functioning and remedial students.There is a strong social component as well. Social activities take place in the classroom and school-wide. Field trips and sports teach teamwork, camaraderie, sportsmanship, appropriate public behaviors in different settings, social skills and enrich the children's academic education.
