We work hard to make school fun. We diversify the reading and math classes up to four grade levels above grade to challenge and keep children engaged. It is not a race, but your child should not be bored. We perform Shakespeare plays, we believe in hands on learning. School should be fun.
At The Nysmith School, we believe that introducing science to children early is important. Our students have 45 minutes of fun, hands on science every day.
The Nysmith School uses technology to inspire creativity and give the children one more tool to present their ideas. Children from 3 years old -8th grade have hands on computer classes for 30 minutes a day. We introduce office in the kindergarten utilizing an integated approach with other core classes. Upper grades, Photoshop, Illustrator, Autodesk, robotics, and much more.
Fourth graders showing their models of the human spine. Science can and should be fun. What do you want for your child? Most parents want their children to learn to their potential and have fun. At Nysmith, we do exactly that. We minimize homework and repetition, we emphasis the joy of learning. 1:9 ratio allows diversification of the academics.
45 minutes of science every day . Prek parade showing off their anatomy shirts. Science can be a lot of fun when done in a fun hands on atmosphere. The goal of Nysmith teachers is to inspire the children and encourage them to try their best. We help each child succeed.
First graders showing their digestion shirts in science class. 45 minutes of science means that we have the time to make science fun. Hands on labs, Emphasis at The Nysmith School is on the joy of learning. Small classes, 1:9 ration, minimal homework, minimal repetition.
The Nysmith School has a state of the art 75,000 square foot facility. 13+ acres, 4 computer labs and an additional media center. 2 gyms, 5 science labs, and 45 light filled classrooms with both exterior and interior windows.
1:9 ratio, two teachers in each class. But that is only half the story. Each teacher from kindergqaren up teach the subjects that they love most. Each teacher wants the children to love their subject. We help the children succeed. We foster the love of learning. You really have to come for a visit to see for yourself.
First graders perform a play. At Nysmith, we help children develope the confidence to stand in front of a crowd. Whether it is in a play or musical, or presenting a science fair project, there are lots of small and large presentations, always done in a supportive and nurturing atmosphere.
Fourth graders run their robots through the maze. There is a reason why families have moved from around the Country so their children could attend Nysmith. The reason is that Nysmith does what others don't, we diversify academics and help each child succeed at a rate that is right for your child. You must see it to believe it.
The Nysmith School philosophy is to teach the children new information as they are ready for it.
Small class sizes and low student to teacher ratios facilitate the diversified curriculum.
By incorporating daily computers, science, logic, and foreign language, we are able to expand the children's academic opportunities and make school fun.
By eliminating needless repetition and diversifying the academics, we are able to accelerate to meet each child's needs.

School Notes:

  • Picture yourself for a moment as your child's teacher, is there one lesson plan, especially in the critical lower elementary grades that is going to be right for every child. Not too hard, not too easy, and paced just right. Of course not, you need multiple lesson plans to challenge all the children in the class. Most classes have 3 levels of instruction; some have up to 6 distinct lesson plans spanning several grade levels of instruction.
  • Classes are grouped by children of the same age for a well-rounded and balanced social, emotional and educational experience.
  • Nysmith does not believe in a lot of rote memorization.
  • Nysmith does not believe in a lot of repetition in the classroom
  • Nysmith does not believe in a lot of homework
  • Children learn best by hands on exploration
  • Our curriculum is designed to be entertaining, interactive as well as educational. If it is fun, the children will learn.
  • Teaching emphasizes academic skills, analytical problem solving, communication and social skills.
  • Students are encouraged to solve problems in different ways to develop their imagination and creativity.
  • Nysmith groups students by age but lets them roam over 3-4 years of grade level in curriculum based on their abilities.
  • Small classes with an average student/teacher ratio of 9:1 and 2 teachers per class help students get the most out of specialized curriculums.
  • Nysmith is able to accelerate curriculum to meet the needs of your child.
