Four Jewish educators were surprised with $15,000 Milken Family Foundation Jewish Educator Awards on Oct. 13. Foundation Executive Vice President Richard Sandler recognized this year’s recipients, Shelley Lawrence, Melanie Berkey, Rabbi Mitchel Malkus and Rabbi Dov Goldman, at surprise assemblies at their respective schools.

LOS ANGELES (JTA) -- The Jim Joseph Foundation awarded $15.9 million to aid Los Angeles Jewish day schools and train Jewish educators to use the Internet.

I can see why a Jewish day school would reject a Jewish child. It could be that the kid has special needs the school is not equipped to deal with, or the parents cannot afford the tuition, or the kid had poor grades in a previous school or simply has a bad attitude.
