School Notes

  • Preschool students participate in child-centered and teacher-facilitated activities that give them opportunities to fully explore the world around them.Teachers carry out comprehensive observations and documentation of goings-on in the classroom, and in conjunction with their knowledge of child development and their objectives for the year, are able to thoughtfully craft a curriculum that is centered on the interests and questions of their class.Emphasis is given to the development of individual identity, in the hopes that all students realize their value and responsibility within our school and local community.Employing the 100 languages of the Reggio Emilia philosophy, a multi-sensory approach is used to meet the varying learning styles and developmental needs of each child, as children are encouraged to express their thoughts, emotions and knowledge through a variety of media, including paint, clay, collage, music, dance, storytelling, blocks, and both natural and recycled materials.

Williamsburg Northside School has been my daughter's school for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade. I was there for the previous administration for one year and now with the new administration for two years. I note this because WNS is becoming a completely different school, from the inside/out. The new admin is incredibly kind, intelligent and interested in education and community. I sent my daughter there because I wanted her mind and everyday experience to be challenged. She has made wonderful friends and her teachers are, for the most part, solid educator's. The importance placed on the arts and community is the real bonus of WNS, from my point of view. For a school that was merely "progressive" a few years ago, it has really leaped forward into a great academic school as well. The environment is warm and friendly, and the students are happy.

My son is about to enter his second year at Williamsburg Northside PreSchool . In just a year his growth and development have gone beyond my highest expectations. I really love the faculty and staff. I feel a real sense of community. The building is very beautiful. There is a rooftop playground! All in all an amazing school.

The Williamsburg trifecta of schools is one of the most reputed schools here in Brooklyn, which is one of the reasons I enrolled my kids here. My daughter goes to the daycare and has been doing really well and I am personally surprised with the improvement I have seen in my son here in the Williamsburg elementary school. I am really thankful.

I enrolled my kid in the Williamsburg Northside schools due to the Reggio Emilia model of learning. The teaching model allows for well rounded growth along with academics and general social skills - both of which are essential for proper childhood growth.
