School Notes

  • ACADEMICS
  • Traditional education systems teach students how to be good test takers, but do not prepare students to be successful once they leave the school environment. Critical thinking skills need to be learned and practiced for use in the world outside school. Having your own ideas and using them to solve complex problems is just as important as knowing the right answers.
  • CUSTOM CURRICULUM
  • A curriculum describes what students will be expected to learn by the end of the school year. A custom curriculum describes a tailored set of expectations for a student based on individual abilities. At Triad we believe each student is unique. We make learning personal. We use a custom curriculum that is flexible and adaptive. It allows students to learn at their own pace and ability. Our custom curriculum, small class sizes, and individual attention support this approach.
  • SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING
  • We believe students require more from school than simply providing a challenging curriculum. Knowing how to interact with peers and understanding the self is an important life skill, but is not often taught in a classroom.

This is both my kids' second year at Triad (currently in 3rd grade and 1st grade). The school is awesome. The classes are wonderfully small: about 12 kids + 1 teacher + 1 additional teacher or assistant per class. And the combination of ability grouping for math + reading/writing and then age-based grouping for all other classes (science, Spanish, social-emotional-learning, art, drama, PE, etc.) is really effective for helping the kids learn academic content while also learning how to be good little humans. I also love the emphasis on critical thinking as opposed to rote content memorization. Oh, and the daily Spanish classes are taught immersion-style -- so good for young kids! The teachers are easy to reach by email or after school, and there are quarterly Parent-Teacher conferences that last about 30-60min each. I think the teachers are doing a great job of tailoring things to help my kids with each of their strengths/weaknesses. The coursework is both appropriately challenging and also really fun: science compost worms, engineering contraption-building for experimental egg dropping, delicious traditional foods + lots of songs and music in Spanish class, hands-on learning tools/toys for math, cozy reading nooks throughout the classrooms, etc.! For developing academic skills, and social skills, and guiding kids toward being kind, capable, happy adults, I highly recommend Triad.

We explored all of the private school options in the Reno/Incline Village area and Triad was by far the best school for our son. Our son started Triad at Level 1 (Kindergarten) and thrived in this new setting. He is now in Level 2 and continuing to blossom. The classrooms are colorful, inviting, and spacious. The teachers create a positive learning style and enriching classroom environment. Our son loves school, including the friends he has made, as well as the teachers and staff (including Hans the adorable school mascot/dog that greets us each day)! We feel safe having our son in this well-monitored environment. We are happy to see his academic side flourish to support his already social and playful nature. He excels in certain subjects and we are grateful the teachers provide skill-level academics (not just grade level). We are grateful for Triad and all the effort everyone has invested in making Triad our son's "happy place."

Triad school has been wonderful for our family! Our children love the teachers, have made a lot of wonderful friends, and are thriving! Our goal was to find a school with strong academics, small class sizes, personalized learning, and lots of fun! We found the perfect balance at Triad! They truly care about our kids, keeping us updated on their progress in all areas. There is a strong academic focus (as there should be), but kids learn a lot from social interactions at school as well. I appreciate the way Triad helps kids learn how to navigate social interactions and work through different situations. The teachers do an amazing job empowering the kids in so many ways. I highly recommend Triad to any parent looking for a school with strong academics, small class sizes, and an environment where kids can have fun and be themselves!

Triad is an amazing school with an amazing program. All the teachers are wonderful, both academically and socially. The kids love them all. The program fills a niche and provides much needed and appreciated alternative to the traditional classroom. The program focuses more on the individual student and their needs, nurturing their strengths and providing assistance and focus to any subjects the student lacks confidence in. One of the best things is the ease of communication with the teachers, staff, and admin!

Due to the pandemic, my son did virtual learning for the last half of kindergarten and all of the first grade. I was beyond grateful for him to land at Triad for second grade. The small classroom size, individual attention, supportive environment, and customized learning style were exactly what we needed to fill in many holes and gaps that resulted in virtual learning. He's in third grade now, all caught up, thriving, and happy, and I credit Yvonne and Triad for this.

My daughters have excelled at Triad. Individual learning is what all schools should strive for. Plus, during the COVID shutdown, Triad stayed open by offering online classes. The teachers and Director are approachable and truly care about every student. I highly recommend Triad.

I`ve had my child at Triad for several years and it`s going well. The pros have been; My child is generally placed in classrooms according to actual ability and learning needs regardless of `grade level`. For example, my child is several years ahead in math, which other schools were either unwilling or unable to accommodate. The bullying that is common in gov`t or even large Charters does not exist at Triad. What few small issues have arisen have been dealt with appropriately. My child enjoys the Spanish language program, and while it moved slowly at first, my kid is now reading books in Spanish. Other languages do not appear to be offered. The potential `cons` have been; Triad is very small and does not have either the ability or interest in increasing size. (one could argue this is a `pro`, or one could suggest that it`s perhaps too small). Triad is tailored well to specific demographics if your child does not `fit the box at a typical school. This could mean very high IQ and well ahead of their grade level but may struggle with social skills. Or kids with garden variety learning disorders or delays. Staff manages to work quite well with both of these groups. If your child can fit in normally at a typical school, I would not necessarily recommend Triad. If parents and/or children are very `hard driving` types, Sage Ridge is your better fit. Triad has no music program and limited extracurriculars available, although recently added art, drama, and coding as extracurricular options.

We have both girls going to this school, I wish I could have had this kind of teaching in my childhood. It`s like a big family, and you feel this the first second you walk in. My girls enjoy learning.

We have been associating with triad for the past 6 years. My older son moved to another high school and the education he received from triad gave him a strong foundation to build on in his new academic environment. We have been extremely happy with the attention our kids receive at triad. The SEL classes have helped both my kids immensely in their overall development. I would highly recommend triad to my friends in reno.
