Emmaus Lutheran School
School Notes Overview:
Emmaus Lutheran School began in 1908 to serve the greater west side communities of Denver. From its small beginnings the school has grown from a kindergarten to all eight grades and in 2007 a new Preschool was added. Educational research verifies the fact that a dual grade setting teaches students responsibility, independence, and aides the teacher by having students for two years in a row. Emmaus offers a full curriculum. At the core of this curriculum is our religious heritage, namely the Bible as the sole rule and norm of life. Subjects are taught from secular text books, but the difference is we have Christian teachers that are allowed to integrate their faith in and with each subject. Religion is taught from materials from Concordia Publishing House and is a Bible survey course. Chapel is also part of the normal week and is normally held on Wednesdays in the church. Emmaus Lutheran School will soon be seeking National Accreditation by the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and by the Rocky Mountain District Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. This is a very rigorous process in which the School explores every area of its operation and then is visited by a team of highly qualified educators. The team then gives recommendations and the school is required to act on all recommendations within a seven year period. After the end of seven years the school is up for re-accreditation. At Emmaus Child Development Center, we recognize the individual needs of each child and offer a wide variety of opportunities for developmental growth. We provide children with a positive, caring, creative, and stimulating Christian environment in which to develop and learn. Emmaus Child Development Center strives to provide each child a Christian foundation assist each child in the adjustment from home to the preschool setting, help each child to problem solve at his/her level of development, broaden each child’s interests and open many “doors of learning”, promote each child’s creative and academic abilities by preparing age-appropriate developmental experiences and materials that give opportunities for creating, exploring, thinking, and reasoning, prepare each child with skills for future school success....
