Peoples Settlement Association is not for profit organization. Our mission is to provide an array of comprehensive social service programs and to improve the quality of life for Wilmington residents.

Shady Lane school began in 1966 as an idea that was ahead of its time on many fronts.

From the outset, we have advocated for doing better by our children, teachers, parents and community.

We seek knowledge and challenge assumptions. One of the first things that parents observe at Shady Lane is a whole greater than the sum of its parts.

Diversity, alone, is not enough. Shady Lane recognizes and respects the diverse talents, experiences and methods developed by each of our Lead Educators and team members.

Shady Lane celebrates an arts-centered vision of the child. It's through, song, movement, painting, textiles, music, movement and other arts that we create and sustain learning environments where playfulness and joy abound.

Mutual Learning Children can only realize their pure potential to the extent that they learn to live, learn and play in relationship to others.

Shady Lane emphasizes partnering, problem solving, conflict resolution, team building and other social skills as essential building blocks.

Shady Lane's staff and educators take great pride in creating a school where teachers listen, where parents participate and where children thrive and flourish.

Our educational program responds to the individual strengths and developmental needs of each child.

In the process, we help your child grow as an individual, in relationship with others and the worlds of materials and ideas.

Children emerge from Shady Lane more giving, confident, independent, curious, and able to solve problems and resolve conflict.
